2023 :3 Reason why Jonathan might emerge the APC Presidential candidate

As the 2023 Presidential race in Nigeria gathers momentum, VAM News reports that some of top Politicians appear to contest.

Firstly, the possibility of the PDP zoning the party’s presidential ticket to the Northern region cannot be ruled out. This political decision can be exploited fully if an Easterner, Goodluck Jonathan, is selected as the candidate of the party in the next presidential election.

secondly, he has a large gathering of followers in the northern part of the nation and a strong connection with the decision-makers in the East.

If APC should settle for Jonathan come 2023, he may help to secure a large number of votes in both the Northern region and the Eastern part of the country.

If the APC means business in the forthcoming general election, Ebele Jonathan is one of the politicians to be considered as a suitable candidate that will lead the party to electoral victory in 2023.

The game of politics is expensive, launching a successful presidential campaign requires a huge sum of money and Ebele Jonathan has what it takes to finance a presidential election.

Thirdly, the possibility of Ebele Jonathan emerging as the presidential candidate of the APC come 2023 cannot be ruled out, since he was a former president of Nigeria.

Baba Gana Umara Zulum Might Not Return As a Governor In Borno, He Might Contest For Presidency In The Year Of 2023

Introduction

It might be very much hard for anyone who is conversant with Nigerian politics to say that he or she does not know Governor Babagana Zulum, as he happens to be among the few politicians who recently came into the limelight of politics and have risen in terms of stake and capacity. However, with regards to the upcoming election in the country which is expected to hold in the year 2023, it is quite calculative that Babagana Zulum might contest for presidency, and he might barely return for his second term as the governor of Borno state. You will recall that he assumed the gubernatorial office in Borno in the year 2019, and he is expected to serve for 4 years in office in which by calculation his first tenure suppose to expire in the year 2023, which equally spell the time for another election in the state and the country at large. More so, the present ovation that Babagana Zulum has both in his state and federal politics makes it obvious to all that his stake stands on a formidable capacity.

Meanwhile, with due regards to the next election, one can say that 'Zulum Might Not Return As A Governor In Borno, He Might Contest For Presidency In 2023'. Furthermore, you will agree with me that Babagana Zulum is a very resourceful politician that is marketable in any political party as at present day politics. Even though his present party is APC, that does not mean that his charisma and enthusiasm will not be well recognized and established in PDP which happens to be the opposition party as at present day politics. More so, history has it that APC took power from PDP in the year 2015, and it is on record that PDP ruled the country for 16 years, since the year 1999 that Nigeria became a democratic nation under the leadership of Olusegun Obasanjo as the first Civilian president as at then.

Permit me to take you down memorially to the year 1999, as Olusegun Obasanjo was the privileged president during that time. He served for his first tenure from the year 1999 to the year 2003, and he re-contested again for his second tenure in office in which by virtue of his established capacity he was victorious, and that alone gave him the opportunity to serve for another 4 years in the presidential office. His second term in office was from the year 2003 to the year 2007. However, the Nigerian constitution only gives room for two terms in office for most of the elective posts, as an individual can only serve for a maximum of 8 years, and 2007 marked the expiration of Olusegun Obasanjo's tenure in office.

Conclusion

The most capacitated party during the time of Olusegun Obasanjo was PDP, which also happens to be an opposition to the present political party of Babagana Zulum, APC. Meanwhile, another election was conducted in the country and it was PDP that won again, and their victorious candidate was Umaru Musa Yar'Adua with his vice as Goodluck Ebele Jonathan. They served the presidential office also, but situation was quite pathetic for Umaru Musa Yar'Adua as he died while he was in office, he only served for 2 years, it was Goodluck Ebele Jonathan that completed his tenure on his behalf. Furthermore, 2011 marked the end of their administration, and it was that same year that Goodluck Ebele Jonathan contested for Nigerian president in proper. He was able to win the election which gave him room to serve for another 4 years again in the presidential office. More so, he served again from the year 2011 to the year 2015 which marks the expiration of his administration, and he re-contested during 2015 election but he lost to APC's candidate.

And ever since then, PDP had lost power to APC which is their opposition, and as at today they are still trying their best to ensure that they take the power back but all their efforts have been futile. The APC's candidate that won against Goodluck Ebele Jonathan who camped under PDP in the year 2015 was Muhammadu Buhari, and he is equally the incumbent president of Nigeria till today. PDP tried their best to take the mantle of leadership back in the year 2019, but they couldn't achieve their objective, as their candidate during the election was Atiku Abubakar who equally happens to be among one of the political strong holds in the country. Meanwhile, that has been the terrain of Nigerian presidency since the year 1999, and as at today, it is quite logical that Zulum as one of the most resourceful politician with high ovation might contest for Presidency in the year 2023, and he might be the one to succeed Muhammadu Buhari after his administration.

Bye-elections: 151 candidates to contest in Lagos, Bayelsa, others Dec 5

About 151 candidates will contest in bye-elections in 11 states on December 5, the Independent National Electoral Commission has said.

A breakdown of the candidates in the pending bye-elections indicated that while Bayelsa Central Senatorial District has 11 candidates, Bayelsa West Senatorial District has 13.

Others are Nganzai and Bayo constituencies in Borno State ( 14); Dass State Constituency in Bauchi (10); Cross River North Senatorial District (9); Obudu Constituency in Cross River (6);and Isu-Uzo State Constituency in Enugu (9).

Others are Imo North Senatorial District (14); Bakori State Constituency in Katsina State (13); Ibaji State Constituency in Kogi State (8); Lagos East Senatorial District (12); Kosofe II Constituency in Lagos State (8); Plateau South Senatorial District (10) and Bakura State Constituency in Zamfara State (14).

INEC National Commissioner and Chairman (Information and Voter Education Committee), Festus Okoye, in a statement issued after its meeting which held in Abuja on Friday, said all the 15 pending bye-elections would be conducted on Saturday, December 5, 2020.

The commission also appealed for the cooperation of voters and stakeholders in the states with pending bye-elections in its efforts to deliver credible elections under a safe environment.

The bye-elections in the federal and state legislative houses were due to the resignation or death of members in eight states of the federation.

INEC had scheduled the bye-elections for October 31 but postponed them on account of insecurity and other environmental challenges in the country.
